There are altogether 10 volumes in the Series of Stories from China, each with a topic about culture. Each topic is provided with 10 stories. With approximate 1000 - 1200 Chinese characters, each story aims at introducing Chinese culture and improving students' reading ability in Chinese,encompassing Chinese history, geography, folk customs, legends, culture,arts, language, traditional festivals, literature, anecdotes of celebrities in ancient and contemporary times and other aspects.

Each story starts with some lead-in questions, such as "What features do Chinese martial arts have?", "What is the meaning of practicing martial arts, and what benefits can we get from it?", and "What's the meaning of wu in wushu(martial arts)?"

Pertinent pictures are provided for each story. New words are presented together with the text to facilitate students’ learning and reading. Exercises are composed of the following parts: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Matching Exercises, Vocabulary Exercise, Grammar Exercises, and Writing Practice.
