The Shanxi Statistical Yearbook 2004 is an annual statistics publication, which reflects various aspects of social and economic development of Shanxi province. Shanxi Statistical Yearbook 2004 covers very comprehensive data series in 2003 at provincial level and local levels of prefecture, city and county, reflects social and economic as well as science and technology development of Shanxi province. To meet the need of international exchange, considerable corrections and improvements have been made in binding and layout.

To meet the data need of making sustainable development strategy and developing socialist market economy, main data and materials about environmental protection, economic booming investigation, enterprise group, modern enterprise system, basic unit survey, hotel information and so on are added in Shanxi Statistical Yearbook 2004.

On the whole, the concepts, definitions and coverage of statistics indicators in this book are the same as in the current statistics report system of our country. The major data sources of this book are obtained from annual statistical reports, some from sample surveys and some from statistics materials provided by relative economical administrative departments. For the convenience of the readers, brief notes concerning some indicators about their changes in meaning or coverage are given at the lower part of relevant tables. In the case of some statistical data issued before being inconsistent with this publication, take the data in this publication as correction.
