The Shanghai Statistical Yearbook 2005 contains comprehensive statistics of Shanghai’s social and economic development in 2004 and selected data of some important years and of the period since China adopted the policy of reform and opening to the outside world.

Since the comprehensive survey of economy has not been finished, part of data related to national economic account, energy production and consumption, industry, agriculture, wholesale and retail trade and science and technology are from preliminary reports.

Some part of the data in this yearbook are investigated and collected by Municipal Statistical Bureau, we haven’t mentioned especially. Some of the data are provided by professional bureau, we especially mentioned the source of data in the notes after the tables.

The internal standard unite of measurement is applied in this book.

The prices used in calculation in this publication are current prices.

Statistical discrepancies in this book due to rounding are not adjusted.
