Life and people in Old Beijing-Through the Eyes of a Painter includes some of the best works from nearly five hundred paintings depicting scenes of old Beijing done by Mr. Sheng Xishan. In these paintings, the artist presents a myriad of images of people's daily lives-the ways they dressed, the food they ate, the houses they lived in and the means by which they traveled in the 1920s and 1930s. Through such portrayals he recreates street scenes, the life and work of businessmen and peddlers, and the customs and habits of the general populace.
