From the perspective of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, thisbook discusses main contents related to the cohesion and coherence ofdiscourse, including their relationship, structure and cohesion, referentialand cohesion, cohesive words and cohesion, and the teaching of cohesion andcoherence. Mainly starting from specific language forms and common problems insecond language acquisition, this book examines the main ways to realizecohesion and to choose corresponding language forms to achieve cohesion indifferent types of discourse.

About the Author
Hu Jianfeng has a PhD in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics ofShanghai Normal University and is an associate professor at the InternationalCollege of Chinese Studies, Shanghai Normal University. His research focuses on text linguistics andpragmatics. Pro. Hu has published more than 30 papers in professional journalssuch as Chinese Teaching in the World, Language Teaching and LinguisticStudies and Linguistic Sciences, presided over a number of nationaland provincial social science projects, and published two monographs.
