Discover China , co-developed and co-published by FLTRP and Macmillan Publishers, is a four-level Mandarin Chinese course, specially designed for beginner to intermediate level students studying Chinese in Englishspeaking countries. Each level includes a student’s book and a workbook. It employs a communicative approach to language learning. Emphasis is placed on communication in real life contexts through a variety of activities. Vocabulary learning comes through topic-based practice and extension exercises. Student-centered grammar learning allows students to discover the rules by themselves through identifying patterns in the language samples. The high-frequency characters in character writing practice are presented within the context of the unit theme. Insights into Chinese culture through “Cultural corner” sections, linked to the unit topics, promote a deeper cultural understanding. Discover China is also supplemented by free online resources and multimedia resources, including CDs, teacher's books, assessment tasks, unit quizzes, extra character writing sheets and more.
