In Catalog of Marine Creatures Collected in the Qing Palace, Catalog of Marine Creatures is an illustrated record of ancient marine organisms the ancestors left us, which is rich in content and is scientific, literary and interesting. Although the catalog came out in the middle 17th century, already 314 years ago, there are still 82.6% species can be identified down to family, genus and species by later generations according to the basis of classification provided by its text and diagrams among the 236 species of marine organisms, legend animals and nonliving matters it records. This is of great significance for the later generations to understand the distribution, ecological habit and utilization of ancient marine organisms.
