This is the Volume One of Chinese Reading Series. With altogether 18 units, it is for international students who take two years' program to use in the 2nd term; or for Chinese language majors in the 1st grade.

Developed for Chinese learners who are at the elementary or intermediate level, Chinese Reading Series aims at improving the learners' reading skills comprehensively through the carefully selected materials and designed exercises which train students' skills in fast-reading, summarization and deduction. The difficulty and amount of vocabulary, the content, length and difficulty of the texts and the exercise types are close to HSK guideline, which helps the students to adapt themselves gradually to the Reading Comprehension in HSK.

Zhang Lina is an assistant professor in Chinese School of Xi'an International Studies University. She has been engaging in teaching and research of Chinese as a foreign language for many years. Her academic interest is methodology of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

《汉语系列阅读》是对外汉语长期进修教材,由第一册(初级)、第二册(中级)两册组成,适合于两年期进修班第二、三学期使用。

本教材着重训练以下三方面的能力:

• 速读能力。培养学生进行扫读、跳读的能力和习惯,使之能够跨越词语障碍,迅速捕捉并获取所需的信息。
• 概括能力。培养学生排除细节的局限和制约,进行综合概括的能力,以便迅速把握文章的主要内容和中心大意。
• 推断能力。培养学生的语感,并根据字里行间或言外之意加以推断的能力,进而理解作者的情感、态度和倾向。

本教材旨在全面提高学生的阅读理解能力,在练习的编排上着重训练学生的速读、综合概括和推断能力。从词语的控制和课文的内容、长度、难度到练习题型的设计,都力求贴近HSK考试,使学生逐步适应HSK考试“阅读理解”试题的答题方式,有针对性地训练学生的答题能力和答题速度。
