Chinese country paintings are not only a kind of traditional drawing, but also a new category of art which is gradully maturing. With their natural style, local characteristics and rich rural flavors, Chinese country paintings have their own way of expression, creativity, vitality, and artistic exaggeration, backed with sharp color contrast. In early 1996, the China artists Association, China Farmers' Daily, China Research Association of Country Paintings and Beijing Phoenix Aviation Company jointly held the Masterpieces of the China Country Paintings Exhibition at the China Art Gallery in Beijing and published this album on the occasion. The 400 painings on display are selected from more than 3,000 and are masterpieces which are full of national style and local flavor and represent the unique features of the paintings by the farmers.
