The China Statistical Yearbook 2006, the annual publication of China Statistics Press, is one of the most important tools in any China researcher's library. The 2006 Edition's twenty-five chapters and two appendices focus on comprehensive data series in 2005 and reflect various aspects of China's social and economic development. This yearbook is also supplemented with brief introductions and explanatory notes which give a description of the concepts behind and scope of the data, the calculation methods used, and historical analysis.

Two chapters listed as the appendices are Main Social and Economic Indicators of Taiwan Province and A Comparison of Economic and Social Indicators among the People's Republic of China and Other Countries/Areas. In brief introduction at the beginning of each chapter, main coverage of this chapter, data sources, statistical coverage, statistical methods and historical changes are concerned. In addition, Explanatory Notes on Main Statistical Indicators are provided at the end of each chapter.
