Preface
The micro history-based investigation and study on the Nanjing Massacre was inspired by an incident. On December 1,2014, when the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders was preparing for the first National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims, it made public "a name list of thirty victimized households" on the wall at the entrance of the Meditation Hall. On the basis of micro study, by sorting out the information of each household, the names were released in accordance with victim numbers. Such related and targeted release of names was highly spoken of by the academia, the media, and visitors.
The trucro study of thirty victimized households was clearly not enough for the study of the history of the Nanjing Massacre. In this connection, how about expanding the study to 300 households? As the then curator of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders and president of the Research Society of the History of Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders,I suggested an innovative project on the study of the micro history of the Nanjing Massacre and began to make official application for the National Social Science Fund of China(NSSFC) project.
In early 2016, Micro History-Based Research on the Nanjing Massacre, an NSSFC project, was listed as one of the key national research projects on the study of the history of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (project approval no.:16KZD016) and was considered as one of the major project financed by the newly founded Research Institute on the Nanjing Massacre History and World Peace. As the chief expert of this key national project, I myself preside over the implementation of the project and believe in the considerable significance and value of the project that deserves our efforts.
