Located in the south of Haozhuang Village in southeast Taiyuan, the temple is one of the protected cultural sites in Shanxi Province. According to the Annals of Shanxi and the Taiyuan Recards, it was financed and constructed by a local official, Fu Lin in 1599. "Wenfeng Pagoda" (old pagoda) and a few humble houses were initially constructed and named as the Yongming Temple. In 1608, funded by the Empress Dowager Cisheng, mother of the Emperor Wanli, the expansion of the temple was presided over by Fu Deng,a monk from Wutai Mountain. In 1612, the construction of the Main Hall, side halls, and other buildings was completed. "Xuanwen Pagoda", a new pagoda, was built to the northwest of "Wenfeng Pagoda" and the temple was renamed "Yongzuo Temple". Two major renovations were conducted in 1658 and 1927.
