China was the biggest victim of the war of Japanese aggression.Japan started to encroach on the northeast China in 1931, and launched the full-scale war of aggression against China in July 1937, causing a total of 35 million casualties in China.Particularly in 1937, in the city of Nanjing alone, 300,000 people were cruelly massacred by the Japanese army within 6 weeks, an event historically known as the Nanjing Massacre.
2.The Outcome of World War Ⅱ and the Historic Trials
After long and bloody counterattack of the World Anti-Fascist Alliance, they won a great victory in the International Anti-Fascist War.On December 1, 1943, the state leaders of China, the US and the UK met in Cairo and issued the Cairo Declaration, which decided to punish the crimes of Japanese aggression, determined the post-war solutions to Japan, and demanded Japan to return all the territories it had seized from China. On July 26, 1945, China, the US and the UK issued the Potsdam Declaration and restated the spirit of the Cairo Declaration. On May 7, 1945, Germany surrendered unconditionally and World War Ⅱ on the European battlefield ended. On August 15, 1945, Japanese imperialism declared unconditional surrender and, on September 2, officially signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, explicitly accepted and promised to implement the terms of the Potsdam Declaration.
After World War Ⅱ, the International Military Tribunal in Europe and the International Military Tribunal for the Far East were established, and trials were held against war criminals of German Nazis and Japanese militarists respectively. The Nuremberg Trials in Europe brought 22 German Class-A war criminals such as Hermann Wilhelm Goring to trial, and sent 10 of them to the gallows
