This book reveals the decline process of a big feudal family where four generations live together and moral codes of feudal society were highly emphasized. The story is set in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province which was influenced by the May 4th Movement. The story uncovers the decadent essence of feudal autocracy, the evil side of feudal family system, feudal ethical code, and superstitious thoughts, and praises the bravery of the young generation to fight against feudalism.
