Editorial Review
The Intermediate Chinese ComprehensiveCourse highlights “four combinations” in writing:
The combination of language skillstraining and critical thinking skills development. The professional development concept of “language skills training + criticalthinking skills development” is implemented. On the basis of vocabulary andlanguage point learning, the “Text Comprehension and Expression Exercise”section is set up in conjunction with the topic of the lesson. Through a seriesof graded and diversified practice activities, learners are helped to developtheir ability to express in paragraphs and, at the same time, to develop theircritical thinking skills through visualized tools and diversified tasks.
The combination of practicality and fun. The topics of the texts are close to life, allowingstudents to have something to say, have the ability to say, and say it well. The content of the topic gives students subtle and positive guidance in thecognitive, behavioral and other dimensions. The exercises are set up in adiversified and hierarchical manner, and at the same time, the games, crafts, simulations and other fun activities are integrated.
The combination of coherence andsystematicness. As the key link of the series, the IntermediateChinese Comprehensive Course is the bridge between the elementary andadvanced levels. The involved vocabulary focuses on Levels 5 and 6 of the GradingStandards, with volume 2 exploring forward to the higher levels andfocusing on vocabulary repetition. Grammar points cover Levels 4, 5 and 6 ofthe Grading Standards, and reinforce in-depth explanations of elementarylanguage points and lay the groundwork for advanced language points. In termsof style, the two textbooks focus on narrative language materials andexpository and argumentative texts respectively, helping students to graduallyadapt to the transition from short narrative texts at the elementary level to professionaland academic texts at the advanced level.
The combination of traditional culture and modern civilization, Chineseperspective and global identity. The topics of the textscover the tasks of Levels 5 and 6 of the Grading Standards, taking intoaccount both traditional and modern elements, and discussing global issues froma Chinese perspective.
