The Edgar Snow Newsroom is an innovative China Daily initiative that not only presents a true, multidimensional and panoramic view of China in its news reports bur also tells China's story through such platforms as social media, books, lectures and events. Senior foreign experts and international friends are encouraged to travel throughout China; to walk China's development path with their own footsteps; to witness the real story of the country and the Communist Party of China; and to chronicle the nation's development in the new era with their own pens and lenses.
These experts see, show and tell how China has injected new impetus into global growth and has made great contributions to promoting exchanges with the rest of the world.
Andrew Moody (1960-2021), British, was a senior journalist at China Daily. He came to China in 2008, and joined China Daily in 2009 serving as the chief correspondent to its global edition. In 2019, he was honored with China's most prestigious award for foreigners, the China Friendship Award, for being "a leader in explaining Xi's thoughts to the world" and "a contributor to China's communications with the rest of the world". Moody died in his Beijing apartment ar 60 after living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, for more than three years.
Andrew Moody was a key member of the foreign correspondents team of China Daily. He had been working in China for China Daily since 2008. He wielded his pen to great effect to write the story of China in the new era, introducing its achievements in various aspects and explaining China's development path and philosophy to the world.
Andrew had always nursed a wish, once he could find some respite from the rigors of daily newspaper journalism, to write about China and the direction in which it was heading. While we have all been deprived of the insight that book would have no doubt offered, we are fortunate to have available to us the full body of Andrew's work for China Daily over 13 years, a representative sample of which appears in this book.
In addition to being a chronicler for the world of what was happening in China, Andrew assiduously kept a personal diary over many years, and with the generous permission of his family we are able to publish within these covers excerpts from this diary Family and friends have also contributed articles that pay tribute to him.
It has been a year-and-a-half since Andrew Moody left us, but the new era Moody experienced continues to write wonderful chapters on the land of China, and is moving toward a better future.
