Over the past 100 years, the CPC has grown from small to big, from weak to strong, and from naive to mature. Due to its continuous development, the CPC, which started with about 50 members in the very beginning, has become a large political Party with more than 96 million members and a 70-odd-year experience in governing China. Throughout these 100 years, the CPC has gone through a lot of trials and hardships and has remained unshakable and become even firmer and more vigorous as time has gone by.

On July 23, 1921, the lst National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Shanghai (the final day of the Congress was held on a boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing County, Zhejiang Province), which marked the establishment of the CPC. Later, July 1 has since become the anniversary of the birth of the CPC. Over the past 100 years, the CPC has grown from small to big, from weak to strong, and from naive to mature. Due to its continuous development, the CPC, which started with about 50 members in the very beginning, has become a large political Party with more than 96 million membersand a 70-odd-year experience in governing China.Since its foundation, the CPC has closely relied on the people.Under its leadership, the PRC was established on October 1, 1949, and the independence of the Chinese nation and the liberation of the Chinese people were realized through the 28-year, large-scale, nationwide revolutionary struggle including revolutionary armed struggle. This period of time is referred to as the New-Democratic Revolution (1919-1949). After that, under the leadership of the CPC, basic socialist systems were established in the PRC, and large-scale socialist construction was carried out, providing a fundamental political premise, material foundation, and institutional foundation for the development of contemporary China. This period of time is often referred to as the Socialist Revolution and Construction (1949-1978). Since the late 1970s, the CPC has led the PRC in implementing the policy of reform and opening up and has created, persisted in, and developed socialism with Chinese characteristics. This period of time is often referred to as "the new development phase featuring reform and opening up, and socialist modernization." Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC held in 2012, based on the remarkable achievements made after the founding of the PRC in 1949, and especially after adopting the "reform and opening up" policy in 1978, the Party has upgraded the drive of reform and opening up to a new level, carried out historic reforms regarding the causes of the Party and the state, and brought China to a new historical starting point: socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new phase of development, or a "new era." Over the past 100 years, the PRC has achieved great success in terms of economy, politics, culture, social construction, and ecological civilization, and its overall national strength and international influence have significantly increased.Throughout these 100 years, the CPC has gone through a lot of trials and hardships and has remained unshakable and become even firmer and more vigorous as time has gone by.
